For those of you are that are not aware, all modern CPUs contain hardware backdoors that both the hardware manufacturers and 3 letter agencies have access to.
https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intelme
"In summary, the Intel Management Engine and its applications are a backdoor with total access to and control over the rest of the PC. The ME is a threat to freedom, security, and privacy, and the libreboot project strongly recommends avoiding it entirely. Since recent versions of it can’t be removed, this means avoiding all recent generations of Intel hardware."
AMD's Platform Security Processor is the same thing, and even the Raspberry Pi's ARM CPU has something similar as do all other ARM CPUs on the market.
If you want a computer without a "known" backdoor, you have to buy a 12 year old IBM X200 from 2008 and install Libreboot firmware to disable the Intel Management Engine backdoor.
Yes according to Intel there is a flag you can set in firmware that "supposedly" disables the Intel Management Engine, but the source code is closed so we have no way to know what effect if any this flag has. We have to take their claims on faith. We do know however that forcibly removing all of the Intel Management Engine code causes the computer to reboot after 30 minutes after it fails a hardware check that verifies the Intel Management Engine code is still there, firmware flag or no. Even Puri.sm cannot completely remove all the Intel Management Engine code despite their best efforts.
The solution is RISC-V
Risc-V is an open source architecture, and with enough people demanding it and enough money backing it there can and would be a RISC-V Raspberry Pi alternative, with open source firmware, hardware, and software so we could audit it and ensure there were no hardware, firmware, or software backdoors.
