The Church of Scientology has been struggling to recruit new adult followers in recent years because of how much about the inner workings have been revealed over the past decade or so. It's really hard to persuade people to join your group when the "harmless weirdos" facade has been washed away, and everyone can see how violently manipulative the church is.
The fact that the Church of Scientology appears to be running a youth outreach program in skateboarding is troubling. They're having a hard time finding adults who are both desperate and uninformed enough to get manipilated into joining, so now they're going after young people who are gravitating to an activity that generally appeals to people who feel like outsiders, and who are often looking for somewhere to belong and find themselves. Those are the kind of people who are VERY vulnerable to cult manipulation tactics.
And I haven’t even gotten to the part where one of Braille Skateboarding’s 26 year old male employees was fired for allegedly being in a sexual relationship with a 14 year old girl. Has Braille Skateboarding ever made a public statement on that situation? No. Just Google “Fetty Potter” if you’d like to learn more.

“Braille is run by a scientologist. Scientologists are not categorically bad, however they are categorically predisposed to exploitation due to the structure of their religion, and a well-documented history of abusers in positions of power within the structures of their religion. So, if we are simply being objective about who owns Braille, and who profits from Braille; it is a man who donates a lot of money to scientology, and scientology is a religion that often normalizes abuse.
Braille makes money by selling skateboards, and skateboard culture to kids.
Kids idolize Braille, and follow the example that Aaron Kyro sets.
One of Braille’s most-recognized pros–Jason Semmel–was caught with a 14 year old girl, and her mother later found out that Semmel and her daughter had an ongoing sexual relationship.
Braille dropped Semmel, but there has been no statement from Kyro or Braille.
And what to do with these circumstances then? That is up to every individual. However, as a parent, as a mentor to a wide range of younger people, a person who finds joy in introducing people of all ages to skateboarding, and ultimately as a skater this shit makes me sick. This is not skateboarding. A lot of young boys and girls who will soon be men and women look up to Braille, and Kyro. Silence does not teach these kids what’s right–it grooms them for predation. Skateboarders are self-actualized, and skaters who teach younger skaters don’t just show the techniques for tricks. Skaters teach younger skaters how to do much more than maneuver a board, and the kind of character that skateboarding builds is invaluable in this world. But none of that is happening when the person doing the teaching is being pimped by an organization that normalizes abuse and incites a hysteric rush to recruit more bodies.”
