Call-screening services are the ones sending the non-responsive robo-calls

At first, I thought the same as everyone else: Scammers are checking to see if our numbers are active.

But when you think about it, there's really no money to be made doing this.

There would have to be two groups:

1. Scammers who curate numbers
2. Scammers who buy lists
   

The problem with group 2 is that they would be well aware of how group 1 makes their money and eventually do it themselves. Group 2 would eventually cease to exist, leaving group 1 in the cold.

Let's assume for a moment that every scammer DID eventually join group 1 and just used the numbers for their own purposes. They would then have to go through the tedious process of stealing info from the very few people that:

• are not thoroughly annoyed and/or fed up with telemarketers
• are not aware of phishing scams
• do not have a screening service
• haven't changed their number since being verified

That's a lot of filters to bypass only to still come across people who give fake info, like to scam the scammers, or catch on to scams. So, being a scammer is becoming less and less lucrative, theoretically.

So who DOES benefit from these curation methods? The ones who claim to protect you from them. They create the problem and then sell you the solution. The DNC list is a joke. I used to be a telemarketer and I was told by management that we can't be sued by people on the list because they can prove that, per the law, the company makes its "good faith attempts" to avoid them by comparing their random-digit-dialing lists to the DNC registry twice a year. Think about it, if telemarketers are required by law to compare their RDD lists against the registry twice a year, this means they have access to the registry. I bring this up to say that this is the PERFECT SCAM!

There's no way to counter it. You HAVE to buy a call-screener or subscribe to a call-screening service if you don't wanna be spammed. And we can't PROVE anything. And even if we could, it's too late since there's no way to trace it back to them, ever. All we can do is prove that they are the only ones actually benefiting from it.
