The Mystery of the Lizard King. (Jim Morrison)
This one’s for music lovers. Politics aside, for now.
Jim Morrison. The Doors. An iconic vocalist from an iconic band. Jim was a psychedelic astronaut booze-hound. His profound lyrics and poetry have transcended the psychedelic 60s and remain a staple among tab takers and ganja smokers. Morrison, also known as The Lizard King, died in a Paris bathtub in 1971. The official cause of death is heart failure, but what is strange is that an autopsy was not done, as it’s not a requirement in France. Eye witnesses and those who were with him leading up to his death say it could have resulted from an accidental heroin overdose. He was only 27, and made up one of many iconic artists in the “27 Club.” (Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse.)
Shortly after his death, a journal of poetry written by Morrison was found, called Paris Journal. It contains mysterious pieces of prose that foretell a man who will be left grieving and having to abandon his belongings, due to a police investigation into a death connected to the Chinese Opium Trade.
“Weeping, he left his pad on orders from police and furnishings hauled away, all records and mementos, and reporters calculating tears & curses for the press: ‘I hope the Chinese junkies get you’ and they will for the poppy rules the world.”
Fast forward 3 years. A mysterious group titled Phantom, releases their only studio album called Phantom’s Divine Comedy Part 1. A heavy psychedelic album filled with poetic lyrics, and profound ideas. The group consisted of “X” on drums and percussion, “Y & W” on bass, “Z” on piano and organ, and simple “Phantom” playing guitar and piano as well as vocals. The vocalist carries that same beritone and swagger as Jim, and carries a lot of the same energy. Eery. The cover for the album features a mysterious Jesus like image of an illuminated long haired man, similar to late period Jim Morrison pointing at the viewer.
Phantom’s Divine Comedy Part 1
Fans began to draw conclusions of conspiracy. Jim’s father was in the Military and his connections to the psychedelic realm and the hippy counter culture was more than enough reason to silence Jim. Being a user of narcotics including opium, and being an iconic celebrity known the world over, is it possible those in the Chinese Opium Trade forced him into the underground and played a role in his eventual heart failure.. err.. overdose?
Long story short. The Phantom album is very good and worth a listen, the vocalist who has been named as Arthur Pendragon does sound eerily similar to Jim, and who knows, he may have been paid to take credit for such a mysterious record, considering none followed it.
