Why does your otherwise reasonable uncle think the Earth is flat and that your grandma think Obama ate babies? They were probably radicalized on social media.

These platforms and these algorithms are designed to breed extremists of all kinds and lock them in their echo chambers of content without any fact checks or exposure to other opinions. They reward sharing the most outrageous shit possible, are designed to be extremely addictive, to the point of being mesurably harmful to the mental health of users. They know everything about you, what you buy, watch, read, and click on. They know what is gonna provoke that dopamine hit to hook you, and they will display it on your feed. They are the first recruiting tool of all extremists and terrorists, from white supremacists to ISIS.

For those who forgot, the rise of Trump happened solely on social media. Remember the wall ? Each one of his actions, lies and propositions was designed to be as outrageous as possible to be shared and seen as much as possible. The guy is a marketing genius after all. Boomers were fed a steady diet of "alternative facts", "fake news", downright made up bullshit. It worked.

So to everyone thinking that the ban of Trump is a step further in the control of speech by the big tech companies, it may actually be the exact opposite. A step towards a public, lawful regulation of these platforms and their algorithms to prevent this shit from happening. But that's only if we take action. Right now Europe is leading the charge with the GDPR. It's not perfect by any means but it's something. Data, privacy, your profiling and what you're being fed by social media is one of the most important societal challenge of the rest of the century. Educate yourself, learn critical thinking and the rational scientific method, ask for proofs and do not believe anyone without it. Don't let this post-truth kingdom of bullshit happens.

If there is a Marek's disease scenario due to the leaky vaccine being promoted, that will mean every human will need a shot or will die

This scares the pants off of me, the more I think about it. Basically what happened is chickens had this disease called Marek's disease that caused tumors but wasn't usually fatal. In 1970 they invented a leaky vaccine (one that didn't prevent infection but only lessened symptoms). What resulted was a mutation of Marek's disease that now KILLS EVERY SINGLE CHICKEN WHO GETS IT. The vaccinated chickens are able to maintain a high viral load while being healthy, enough to quickly kill an unvaccinated bird. So if you own chickens, and they're going to be in contact with other chickens, you HAVE to vaccinate them or they can die easily.
