What if the events of the Sonic Movie really happened, just with Naoto Ohshima instead of Tom Wachowski?
Picture this: After Sonic gets discovered by the Echnida Tribe, Longclaw sends him through the ring portal into late 80s Osaka, Japan, when Sonic lives in seclusion before he is found by a young Naoto Ohshima. Cue electromagnetic pulse that cause power outage throughout japan and subsequent adventure trying to keep Sonic from being captured the government and discovered the common public. Essentially, the story follows the exact sequence of events from the movie except the ending, as Sonic is actually taken into custody by the Japanese government and shipped overseas to Area 51. He gifts Ohshima his bag of portal rings, with easy access to his home dimension, before being dragged off. In retaliation, Ohshima teams up with programmer Yugi Naka to create the first Sonic the Hedgehog game of Sega Genesis, with the excuse of rivaling Super Mario. The game is met with overwhelming success, and prompts several sequels, each of which introduces new characters. These characters, such as Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, and several others, are inspired directly by other aliens Ohshima met while dimension-hopping. The vast success of the franchise ultimately culminates with the trailer for a Sonic the Hedgehog Movie in April of 2019, featuring a laughably attrocious live-action character model. After tremendous backlash, Ohshima demands that the real Sonic be released from custody to star in the movie, but is denied. He then activates his plan B by exploiting the fragility of Facebook's security and planting the idea within the minds of Facebook users to raid Area 51 in search of alien life (think about it. Naruto running was a popular concept during the attempted raid, but Sonic has been running like that since 1993. It's all a cover-up!) Then, on November 12, the real Sonic is released from Area 51 to act in the Sonic Movie, but is forbidden to speak to still keep up the illusion that he is computer-generated. The solution? Sonic mouths his lines, while Ben Schwartz in brought in to do voiceover work. This version of the movie is received far better than the original, governments officials finally concede, and Sonic is released back into his home dimension, where he befriends all of his quote unquote "co-stars," from the video games. But don't worry, not only will he be allowed to return to act in the movie's sequel, but the interdimensional technology he and Tails have mastered has allowed them to post regularly to their own personal YouTube channels (Gotta Go Fast! and Tails and Sonic Pals).
TL; DR The events of the Sonic Movie happened irl in 1980s Japan, and Sonic is real.
