Deep dive on Dan Schneider and Amanda Bynes relationship
I've been deep deep down the Dan Schneider rabbit hole for a while now. It's kind of an open secret in hollywood that he's a creep. Some of his alleged victims consist of Miranda Cosgrove, Victoria Justice, Ariana Grande, Jamie Lynn Spears, Amanda Bynes, Jennette McCurdy, and Alexa Nikolas (the last two have been the most vocal about Nickelodeon pedophiles).
I want to specifically talk about Dan Schneider and Amanda Bynes because he seems to have been the closest with her than any of the other women I mentioned. She also seems like the most traumatized one of the bunch, and there was definitely something fishy going on there. Amanda Bynes got her start as a cast member on the hit Nickelodeon show All That. Dan Schneider and Brian Robbins are the ones who discovered her from a comedy camp in California. From there she got her own show, The Amanda Show. Originally, Amanda's show was going to be a sitcom. It was going to be about a girl (Amanda) who came home from a movie to live with her cousin, who was also going to be played by Amanda. Think Liv And Maddie, that's what it was originally supposed to be about. The pilot was so bad that it never aired and they gave up on pushing Amanda onto her own show. Then came Dan Schneider. He heard about this idea and told the show runners what he would have done differently. He would've made it a one-woman show; kind of like All That, except it surrounded Amanda Bynes, thus came The Amanda Show. Dan really tried pushing Amanda to have her own show, like he really wanted to work with her that badly. I've heard of a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes of The Amanda Show which could honestly be a thread in itself. But just a brief summary of it, allegedly Dan Schneider would make Amanda take adderall to stay more hyper throughout the show. Some people have noticed that in this interview , Amanda was really hyper. Some say this is normal behavior for someone her age but others say that it's obvious she was "drugged". Appareantly Dan got a bit too comfortable around her on set. Out of nowhere The Amanda Show ends. People thought it got cancelled but that wouldn't make sense considering it was a really big success. Turns out Amanda left the show herself because she wanted to leave Nickelodeon... I wonder why.
Amanda Bynes quickly became a movie star once she was casted in the movie Big Fat Liar. This film was a commercial success and a big breakthrough for her. It was directed by Shawn Levy. Guess who created the movie? Brian Robbins and Dan Schneider. She couldn't even transition to being a movie star without Dan being involved. Around 2001 iirc, Amanda was telling the press that she wanted to be a mature actress and act in movies/tv shows people around her age would watch (she wanted her demographic audience to consist of teenagers, not kids). So, Dan decided to give Amanda her own show again called What I Like About You. This show is not like other Dan Schneider shows. If you look through his filmography, you'll see that Dan regularly makes shows for kids. Even his movies would fall under the same category. What I'm trying to say is that it's as if Dan was willing to do anything for Amanda. Like I mentioned earlier, Amanda wanted to act in something where the audience would consist of mature people. And what does Dan do? He makes a show entirely for her. This is especially weird to me because Dan is known for being an asshole, that's no secret. Even Jennette McCurdy said that he was verbally and emotionally abusive to her. She's not the only one who has said this, Angelique Bates from the first two seasons of All That was abused from her mom on set; physically, emotionally, and verbally in front of her cast mates and producers. No one did anything. I'm pretty sure the reason she was blackballed from Hollywood in the first place is because of Dan Schneider, he told her she wasn't going to make it big. So the fact that we know Dan is just an overall POS, how was it so easy for Amanda to get that show? Did she do any favors for him in order to transition into a mature actress? I don't know but that whole situation is weird.
Around 2003, Amanda was going to emancipate from her parents when she was just 16 years old, meaning she could go on set to the show without her parents having to be there. Allegedly Dan is the one who wanted her to get emancipated in the first place so that he could be alone with her, without her parents following her around everywhere, but that's just a rumor. Although she was considering living with him and his wife, Lisa Lillien (scroll down to "Early Encouragement"). That can give you an idea on how close Amanda was with Dan. I mean, not only was she close with her producer when she was a minor, but she was also close with her producer's wife. As you can tell, she saw Dan as a father figure. So... were those tweets where she accused her "father" of sexually abusing her about Dan?
Something I'd like to point out is how Amanda typically dates older men. When she was 14, she started dating 19 year old Taran Killam. When she was 16, she started dating 24 year old Nick Zano. She really fought for Channing Tatum to get the role Duke Orsino in her movie She's The Man, even though Channing was too old to play a high schooler -- he was 26 while Amanda was barely 19. She was also rumored to be dating David cross when she was 19 and he was 42 (I don't know how true those rumors are). Then when she was 21 she dated 34 year old Seth MacFarlane. You can see the pattern here... she was normally attracted to men much older than her.
Now, looking through Dan's instagram feed, you can see that he wishes almost every person he's worked with a happy birthday -- with one exception, Amanda Bynes. Even though Amanda was the cash cow for Nickelodeon for about a decade, even though she almost lived him. He worked so closely with her for 10 whole years and doesn't even acknowledge her, yet he's posted about Jennette McCurdy who has spoken out against him. He also doesn't seem to acknowledge The Amanda Show even though it was extremely popular and probably the most quotable show to come out of Nickelodeon. He even included one of his movies, Good Burger, in the banner but not The Amanda Show. It's like he wants nothing to do with Amanda even though they were so close at one point.
Maybe I'm overreacting but after rewatching iCarly, Dan definitely threw in some shade in there. He shaded Disney Channel, Britney Spears, Kesha, and maybe even Amanda. I want to say maybe because in the episode called "iKiss", Carly and Sam come come home from watching a movie and Spencer asks how it was. Sam says "Same as every other stupid teen chick movie ever made." Then Carly says, "It made me embarrassed to be a teen chick." Again, I'm probably overreacting but Amanda (at the time) was the only "teen chick" to make it big out of Nickelodeon so maybe Dan was trying to be clever by vaguely calling out Amanda for her shitty teen chick flicks (I'm a sucker for shitty teen chick flicks). Another episode where Dan might have shaded Amanda is in the episode "iSave Your Life" which is actually the most viewed episode of iCarly. There's a moment when Carly says, " Well, I'm standing here with my lips all glossed up, and you're treating me like I'm your icky cousin Amanda." Then Freddy says, " Amanda is disgusting..." Dan could've used any name but instead he chose Amanda even though that name is heavily linked to Nickelodeon because of The Amanda Show. Then there's an episode in Drake & Josh called "Little Diva" where a child actress named Ashley Blake is a total diva and selfish towards everyone else. Apart from the initials being A.B. like Amanda Bynes, the fake movie poster from Ashley Blake is very similar to Amanda's What A Girl Wants poster. So what does this all mean? Why won't Dan Schneider acknowledge The Amanda Show and why is he shading Amanda Bynes? I don't know, maybe she refused to do him any more favors or maybe they had a fight. But something definitely happened between them.
