Happiness Hack: Appreciate the avataric spacesuit we call a body

Nearly lost my vision in one eye not too long ago and had severe inflammation in my ocular nerves. It's mostly healed now, so let me sing the praises of vision: being able to SEE and not being blind is pretty awesome. Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have until it's gone.

We seldom become sensitive to and cognizant of the apparatuses of perception, probably because such sensors, sieves, and filters are akin to a window that we look through -- rather than directly perceiving (unless you get in a sensory deprivation tank! Then they're more overt).

A sense of empowerment and freedom, however subtle and nuanced, can be evoked by sending love to your eyesight, your ability to hear, your ability to move all the parts of your physical body, your ability to take a deep breath, to make sounds with your healthy vocal chords, to feel the temperature and movement of space on your skin.

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh phrased it simply and eloquently, by encouraging us to smile at our non-headache, to smile at our non-toothache.

Food for thought,

Rhythm for the heart,

Music for the mind,

Warm regards
