Plato’s Cave Allegory
So I thought I would share this story with you guys cause it stuck with me ever since I heard it and ik the general person on this sub will enjoy it. This story isn’t based on true events, it just says a lot about people as a whole and why any conspiracy theory has so much stigma. This story is also what the Matrix is based on.
So the story begins very deep inside a cave, to the point where no light from outside has ever reached. Inside the cave we have 3 people chained to a wooden wall parallel to a cave wall, unable to do anything but look forwards and speak. Behind where they are chained, there is a fire that makes shadows on the wall in front of the prisoners. Sometimes a wild animal will wander by the fire and the prisoners are made aware by its shadow. They have been there all their lives and this shadow world on a wall is all they have ever know. One day one prisoners shackles break and he falls to the floor. At first it feels impossible to move around, but eventually he learns to walk. Slowly but surely, he makes his way to the caves entrance. The sun is out and he is completely blinded, and becomes terrified. Yet he holds his ground, and eventually he can see. He looks at the world around him and is in awe, he quickly comes to understand everything he knew was just a shadow and there is so much more to reality than he or his friends thought possible. Ecstatic, he runs back into the cave to tell his friends of his discover. Yet when he goes back to the cave, his eyes are no longer sensitive enough to see the shadows on the wall. He tries tell his friends what he has seen, but they do not understand and call him crazy. they ask him what he sees on the wall and he says nothing, confirming their suspicions of his insanity. The freed prisoner realizes they will never understand unless they experience it themselves so he tries free them against their will. The shackled prisoners become terrified of becoming blind and insane like their old friend, so they kill him before he can release them. they then go back to living the rest of their lives in the “shadow world”.
So what do you guys think?
