Details of the 2014 Encounter, Improved Technology with Multiple Corroborations + Details of full Gimbal Video
Here is the other part of my research. I had watched all of the documentaries, etc, but still learned a few things about this incident. Tried to summarize for those of your reading on the pooper.
2014: Carrier Strike Group 12 led by USS Theodore Roosevelt. In contrast to the Nimitz Tic-Tac incident 10 years earlier, they had:
- New APG-79 Electronic beam scanning radar
- New integrated data link capability (radar and sensors linked – overview of battlefield)
- E2D Advanced Hawkeye Airborne Early Warning System
For WEEKS many of these pilots had been tracking objects, assuming their NEW radar was faulty because they showed unknown objects hovering for hours, before accelerating away at hypersonic speeds.
But when their FLIR cameras started picking up these same objects, indicating they were not faulty sensors. Sometime the pilot could make visual, sometimes not.
Multiple pilots reported visual identification. Lt Ryan Graves confirmed on several incidents that they would see the objects on the APG, fly towards them and when they got close enough, the FLIR would pick up extremely clear visual confirmation.
Two pilots in FA-18 Super Hornets flying in tandem had one of the objects fly between them at high speed. They described it as a cube inside a translucent bubble. (Ryan Graves “I almost hit one of those damn things”) Christopher Mellon confirmed this description.
One of the pilots in this incident filed a Mishap Report with the Navy, but it was “ignored”.
In another incident, Lt. Danny Accoin encountered UAPs – he set his plane on a merge course after spotting the objects on radar. He closed on the object, but could not see it on his helmet camera. A few days later in another contact, he was able to lock on with a training missile, and his IR camera picked it up as well. He still could not make visual.
The UAPs were being seen almost EVERY day. Planes equipped with the APG-79 were picking them up all the time.
Gimbal Video:
Ryan Graves stated that the publicly released Gimbal video is a clip from a much longer, high resolution video (approx. 10 minutes) that he viewed on the USS Roosevelt. He described the incident as a “cluster of smaller craft, flying in an inverted V Shape in front of the larger Gimbal object”. The other objects were not visible in the video released to the public. The gimbal then accelerates away at supersonic speed. The cluster of objects continued to hover in formation for hours.
Lt. Graves admitted the carrier had sightings while he was flying in the middle east later that year, indicating the UAPs had potentially followed the fleet.
Again... multiple, independant radar systems confirming and recording the objects, along with pilot visual ID.
