Dr. Eric Davis: “The immune system works like an antenna” and “may be the reason why the phenomenon is interested in you.”
This is sort of a continuation of the rabbit hole submission I made about the Alaskan pyramid suppressing consciousness, so it may be beneficial to check that one out before starting this but it’s definitely not required. This other thread on Lue’s background in immunology is also pretty relevant.
Anyways, I’ve been trying to figure out what this quote from Eric Davis has meant for a while now where he says the human immune system can act as an antenna for the phenomenon and some people may be more genetically predisposed than others when it comes to encounters with UAP or other non-human intelligence.
The gist of what I know is that the immune system works like an antenna. It absorbs everything in the environment around you. That may be the reason the phenomenon is interested in you because it may know that you have some genetic predisposition it’s interested in. That’s what Garry and Kit’s work is all about.
Why are certain people highly sensitive, to have this genetic predisposition to phenomenon encounters? Then they do these studies using FMRI and what not, so you know the rest of that story. So it seems that there are some people more sensitive than others and it isn’t just in the old brain psychic sense. You might need to throw the immune system into it because the immune system does behave like an antenna, sucks in information, records it and it’s got knowledge.
It may be communicating in its own way, we haven’t fully discovered everything that it does to my understanding, it’s still under study. Genetics is very complicated, it’s not straightforward and it’s not linear. It’s a very non-linear, non-straightforward, counterintuitive thing that produces life, at least on this planet. As far as we know, there’s still much more to be learned. We haven’t learned everything there is to know about it, or to find out about it in making those discoveries. The same goes for the immune system because the immune system is a function of genetics.
After researching the immune system for a bit, I ended up honing in on the neuroimmune system after something caught my eye: glial cells. I had read about them in my research for the Alaskan Pyramid thread and wondered if they could be related to unlocking our understanding of consciousness or this supposed predisposition Dr. Davis alludes to. Unlike the peripheral immune system, the neuroimmune system is made up mostly of these types of cells (as is 90% of the brain). We don’t understand much about these cells because we’ve basically thought they were just the glue that held the processes of the brain together and haven’t bothered studying them until recently (scientism cough cough).
In an interview about his book The Root of Thought in Scientific American, Dr. Andrew Koob describes glial cells and specifically the type of cell called “astrocytes.”
LEHRER: Your new book, The Root of Thought, is all about the power of glial cells, which actually make up nearly 90 percent of cells in the brain. What do glial cells do? And why do we have so many inside our head?
KOOB: Originally, scientists didn't think they did anything. Until the last 20 years, brain scientists believed neurons communicated to each other, represented our thoughts, and that glia were kind of like stucco and mortar holding the house together. They were considered simple insulators for neuron communication. There are a few types of glial cells, but recently scientists have begun to focus on a particular type of glial cell called the 'astrocyte,' as they are abundant in the cortex. Interestingly, as you go up the evolutionary ladder, astrocytes in the cortex increase in size and number, with humans having the most astrocytes and also the biggest. Scientists have also discovered that astrocytes communicate to themselves in the cortex and are also capable of sending information to neurons. Finally, astrocytes are also the adult stem cell in the brain and control blood flow to regions of brain activity. Because of all these important properties, and since the cortex is believed responsible for higher thought, scientists have started to realize that astrocytes must contribute to thought.
Dr. Koob then goes on to explain the role glia may play in creativity.
LEHRER: You suggest that glia and their calcium waves might play a role in creativity. Could you explain?
KOOB: This idea stems from dreams, sensory deprivation and day dreaming. Without input from our senses through neurons, how is it that we have such vivid thoughts? How is it that when we are deep in thought we seemingly shut off everything in the environment around us? In this theory, neurons are tied to our muscular action and external senses. We know astrocytes monitor neurons for this information. Similarly, they can induce neurons to fire. Therefore, astrocytes modulate neuron behavior. This could mean that calcium waves in astrocytes are our thinking mind. Neuronal activity without astrocyte processing is a simple reflex; anything more complicated might require astrocyte processing. The fact that humans have the most abundant and largest astrocytes of any animal and we are capable of creativity and imagination also lends credence to this speculation.
So is Eric Davis talking specifically about our neuroimmune system? Are these glial cells, specifically astrocytes, the key to understanding consciousness and why the phenomenon interacts with some people more than others due to predisposition? Is this what the “Invisible College” has been studying in secret since AAWSAP was shuttered 11 years ago?
Edit: Thanks to u/MossyMoose2 for pointing out that glial cells have been called The Dark Matter of the Human Brain.
